This is for both the first time using the new Edge AND when logging on to a new computer

Set MS Edge as Default Browser

Not everyone may need to do this. If you already show Edge as your default browser in step 5, you can move on.
  1. Open the Start Menu in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen
  2. Click the Settings Gear on the left
  3. Apps
  4. Default Apps
  5. Under Web Browser, click whatever is there
  6. A pop-up will appear, choose Microsoft Edge

Initial MS Edge Setup

  1. Open Microsoft Edge
    1. The icon should look similar to the one below

    2. If you get a welcome screen, let it go through the automated process
  2. You'll eventually get to a screen that says "Welcome to Microsoft Edge, the best...", press that button
    1. You can read the information if you would like
  3. Sign in to sync data
  4. Enter your e-mail and password
  5. If you are on a town-owned computer, choose "Ok" for "Stay sign in to all your apps"
    1. Optional for all others
  6. Done
  7. If you would like to import data from a Google Account, you can do so here
    1. Otherwise, choose "Continue without this data"
  8. The new tab it opens an optional screen for settings

Check Sync Status

  1. Open Microsoft Edge
  2. Click on your profile picture or initials in the top left of the window
  3. Underneath your email address, you can see the sync status
    1. If it is not "Synced" or "Setting up sync", choose to start syncing and go through the prompts on the screen

Copy Favorites and other settings from Chrome

If you are importing from any other browser and you need assistance, please contact IT for support

Same Machine

  1. Open Microsoft Edge
  2. Click on the three dots on the right of the window
  3. Settings
  4. Import browser data
  5. Import data from Google Chrome
  6. Uncheck any options that you do NOT want to copy over to Edge
  7. Click Import

Different Machine

Need to export bookmarks/favorites from old computer before migration
  1. Open Microsoft Edge
  2. Click on the three dots on the right of the window
  3. Settings
  4. Import browser data
  5. Under "Import from other browsers," select "Choose what to import"
  6. Under "Import from," select "Favorites or bookmarks HTML file"
  7. Click "Choose file" and locate the saved file from Chrome
  8. Select "Import" to bring in your Chrome bookmarks, including your shortcut folders
