WIFI Hotspot on iOS

Set Up

  1. Go to Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot or Settings > Personal Hotspot.
  2. Tap the slider next to Allow Others to Join.
    1. You can change the Wi-Fi password from this screen if you would like

Wi-Fi

  1. On the device that you want to connect to, go to Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot or Settings > Personal Hotspot and make sure that it's on.
  2. Then verify the Wi-Fi password and name of the phone.
    1. Stay on this screen until you’ve connected your other device to the Wi-Fi network.
  3. On the device that you want to connect, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and look for your iPhone or iPad in the list.
    1. Exact path to Wi-Fi will depend on device.
  4. Tap the Wi-Fi network to join.
  5. If asked, enter the password for your Personal Hotspot.

Bluetooth

  1. To make sure that your iPhone or iPad is discoverable, go to Settings > Bluetooth and stay on that screen.
  2. Then on your Mac or PC, follow the manufacturer directions to set up a Bluetooth connection.

USB

  1. On your iPhone:
    1. Unlock your iPhone and go to "Settings."
    2. Tap on "Cellular" or "Mobile Data," depending on your iOS version.
    3. Look for "Personal Hotspot" and tap on it.
    4. Turn on the Personal Hotspot toggle switch.
    5. You may see a prompt to enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. You can choose to enable them or use USB only, depending on your preference.
    6. Connect your iPhone to your Windows PC using a USB cable.
  2. On your Windows PC:
    1. Once connected, your PC should recognize the iPhone as a network device.
    2. Open the "Settings" app on your Windows PC.
    3. Go to "Network & Internet."
    4. Click on "Ethernet" on the left sidebar.
    5. You should see a new network connection labeled as your iPhone. Click on it.
    6. If prompted, enter the password (you may find this in the Personal Hotspot settings on your iPhone).

Troubleshooting

Device Won't Connect

  1. Open the settings app and tap "Personal Hotspot".

  2. Tap the switch to enable "Maximize Compatibility".
