1Password - Adding Browsers or Devices to Your Account
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you ever are prompted for codes at a time where you were not attempting to add a device or browser, CONTACT THE IT HELPDESK IMMEDIATELY!
Issue
User is trying to add an additional browser/extension/device and is having issues obtaining a verification code.
Solution
- For the first additional authorized device, you need to have access to the original device and browser that you initially used for 1Password
- For example, if you initially logged into 1Password using Edge on your town Surface device, you will need to log into 1Password again on your town Surface device using Microsoft Edge in order to be able to use the desktop application or Google Chrome.
- This is true even if you are trying to use the desktop app or Chrome on the same physical device.
- On your first attempt to login to a new device, you'll get a box similar to the box below on that device.
- Once you have gotten the above code on the new device, log into 1Password from your original device and browser.
- In this example that would be Microsoft Edge on your town Surface. Once you've done this you should receive a notification similar to the one below:
- Click on the "Allow" button to create the verification code.
- Enter the verification code on the new device to complete the verification process.
