How to Highlight Mouse Cursor

Since more places are using monitors, TVs, or display boards for meetings, users who want attendees to focus better on an area of a web page, video, or presentation can do so by highlighting their cursor. This really helps to focus better on the pointing area.

However, by default, Windows does not offer an option to always have your cursor highlighted.

These instructions below offer you several pre-built highlighted cursor options called Cursor Schemes that you can add to your computer to make presentations easier.
Install Highlighted Cursor Set
- Go to the Plainfield IT SharePoint using this link: Highlight Cursor Icons
- Look through the zip files and choose the highlight color you want
- Recommended
- Green - Best option in testing
- Gold - Better than yellow as yellow is often washed out on brighter screens and doesn't highlight as well
- Red - Attention grabbing
- You'll be able to do the following with any .cur formatted image, but the one's we provide are transparent to allow seeing what's behind the highlight
- Copy or Download the ZIP file to your computer
- Create a folder with a name you'll remember and extract files to the folder
- Recommend in your Downloads folder
- On your computer, open the Settings menu
- The next step depends on your operating system
- Windows 11
< Start Menu Icon
- Bluetooth & devices > Mouse
- At the bottom, under Related Settings, choose Additional mouse settings
- Windows 10
< Start Menu Icon
- Devices > Mouse
- On the Rich, under Related Settings, choose Additional mouse options
- In the Mouse Properties window, choose the Pointers tab
- In the dropdown, choose (None)
- This helps ensure you're not saving over any default settings
- Double-click Normal Select

- In the window that opens, click the dropdown next to Look in: and choose Downloads (or wherever you saved the folder)

- Open the folder you created and double-click Normal Select.cur
- The name will be the same regardless of the color you selected

- Repeat steps 9 & 11 for each of the options
- You do not have to worry about step 10 as it will remain in the folder you selected
- Once you have gone through all of the options, click Save As...
- Name the scheme Highlight Color while replacing the word Color with the color you chose
- Click Apply to confirm and test your settings and OK once done
Enable or Disable a Highlighted Cursor
- On your computer, open the Settings menu
- Bluetooth & devices > Mouse
- Under Related Settings, choose Additional mouse settings

- Under Scheme, click the dropdown
- Choose the highlighted color that you want

To reset your cursor and disable the highlight, repeat the steps above, except choose Windows Default (System Scheme) or any scheme you would like on step 6
